Help & Care was left an important legacy by someone it helped
When Douglas was introduced to Help & Care he was bed bound. He didn’t have any family and hadn’t married so Help & Care provided the support he needed to enhance his life. Douglas relied on Help & Care to be his voice and was grateful for the visits he received from the advocacy team while he was in hospital.
Douglas's one wish was to stay at home and live as independently as possible with the right support in place. The advocacy team ensured he had the help he needed to continue living by himself and didn't have to go into a care home.
Douglas had such a sweet tooth, he loved cakes and sweets. We would always take him one of the largest donated fruit cakes at Christmas time.Karen Fuller, Advocacy and Support Worker
Sadly Douglas passed away in 2012. As a result of the care and support he received from Help & Care, Douglas decided to leave his estate to the charity. Douglas had wanted his legacy to help others like him live better lives and that’s exactly what’s happened.
Over the last three years money left by Douglas and by others who have benefited from the charity has helped Help & Care to carry out 2,288 vital volunteer referrals and over 8,000 regular Telephone Support Service calls to isolated older people.
We’re working hard to make sure that Douglas’s memory continues through the work that we do.
