![]()
Care to Work is a new one year project for unpaid carers in Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole. The aim of the Dorset Adult Education Services project is to support carers into learning and training which will aide their return to paid work or volunteer.
Learning and Skills Council research shows that many carers find that they need to update or gain new skills when returning to work. But research also shows there can be barriers for carers who want to enter learning and training, for example:
- Course Costs
- Transport
- Lack of information
- Adult or child care costs
- Low self esteem
Care to Work is hoping to overcome these barriers by offering the following support:
- FREE Information, advice and guidance sessions
- FREE Taster courses
- FREE Accredited course
- Help with child care, sitting service and transport costs
The project is open to unpaid carers:
- Whose caring role has changed giving time for learning and training
- Whose caring role has ended in the last 18 months
- Living in Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole
- Over 16 years of age
- Who are currently not in paid employment
- Who want to work or volunteer
By joining the project carers will be able to develop their own action plan for their future. This plan will based on what they want and need as well as ensuring all the support available is given to meet their goals. Taster courses that will build skills will also build self confidence.
There are many benefits in entering learning for a carer
- Sense of identity
- Increase in confidence
- Self worth and value
- Freedom to think about the future
- A chance to meet people
- Increase skills and employability
