Free Community Radio day conference

Why Limit Yourself to Just Listening? Free Community Radio day conference at Bournemouth University

‘Sounds Good to Me’ at Bournemouth University July 14th 2011

Whilst we can’t all be the next Terry Wogan or as good as Roy Plumley was on Desert Island Discs there’s surprisingly little to stop people making, and broadcasting, their own radio programmes. As technology marches forward one of the major benefits is the ease with which programmes can be made and the relatively low cost.

In order to show people just how easy and fun it is Bournemouth University and Age UK are holding a free day conference on Thursday July 14th for anyone aged over 50 who has an interest in knowing more about community radio and making programmes.

On offer is an exciting programme of inspirational speakers and practical workshops. Delegates will find out about the developing local community radio and will learn some of the practical skills needed to make radio programmes.

The workshops will be run by trainers and broadcasters from the BBC, Radio academics from Bournemouth University and The Media Trust so expect the highest industry standard – and full of useful and practical information. Advice and support will be on hand for people who get the broadcasting bug and want to take their interest further. Bournemouth University has been running award winning radio courses for 11 years and is proud to host this event.

Hilary Foggo from Age Concern Dorchester (soon to be Age UK Dorchester) said “We had great fun in helping to train volunteers, with  expertise from Radio Solent, to devise and record a radio programme called “Movie Memories”. We are now exploring the possibility of setting up a regular radio club. Making your own radio programmes is brilliant!”

Whether you are completely new to radio or already have some experience the organisers guarantee that there is much in the day’s programme that will be of interest.
