DIGNITY IN ACTION DAY is on 25 February 2011, it’s a day that asks everybody - members of the public and Health and Social Care staff to give the gift of time.
Help and Care is asking people to think about whether they can spare some time to volunteer to help isolated, vulnerable older people in the community.
Volunteers can provide practical support such as helping an older person with their shopping, taking them to a hospital appointment, pet care or light gardening. Employees at local businesses could also provide help, from providing free legal advice to offering help with writing a letter. Any support made will be a vital contribution to all aspects of community life.
Heather Martin, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Help and Care said: “If you feel you can take some time out of your day to do something, however small, for people who too often feel isolated you will make a huge difference to their quality of life. Your efforts to respect the dignity of others might be as simple as being there for someone to talk to, to share memories with and look at old photos.”
