Help and Care provides advice to Carers

Help and Care advises Unpaid Carers to find out about their Rights

Carers Rights Day 2010 Friday 3 December.

UNPAID CARERS are being urged to call Help and Care’s helpline 0300 111 3303 or visit helpandcare.org.uk to find out about the support and help that is available to them.

This year Carers Rights Day (Friday 3rd December) is all about knowing your rights - finding ‘hidden’ carers who don’t realize they have rights; supporting carers to claim what they are entitled to; and informing carers and carers groups about what new protections for carers in the Equality Act will mean for them.

In Dorset [1]42,000 people say that they provide care on a regular basis and more than one in five people, of those in the 50 to 59 age group, provide that care. Most of these carers work, either full or part-time. Carers look after relatives, friends, neighbours or partners who could not manage without their help.

The trained and experienced Carers team at Help and Care can provide advice and information via the helpline or in person. Carers can also download free factsheets covering areas such as Carers Allowance, Carers Rights and Assessments and Carers Support Groups from www.helpandcare.org.uk.

Marianne Lambourne, Director of Development at Help and Care said:

“Many carers are missing out on vital support and advice. We understand that each carer has individual needs and work closely with people to find out how we can help.”

Unpaid Carers wishing to find out more about the help and support available should call the Help and Care helpline 0300 111 3303 or visit www.helpandcare.org.uk.
