Help and Care receive Investing in Volunteers Award

Help and Care has received the Investing in Volunteers Award for a second time.

Investing in Volunteers is the UK quality standard for all organisations that involve volunteers in their work. Help and Care was the first organisation in Dorset to be awarded the prestigious ‘Investing in Volunteers Award’ in 2006. The charity’s reputation and commitment to promoting and developing volunteer activity throughout Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole is widely acknowledged.

To achieve the standard, the Help and Care had to demonstrate that they were using good practices in ten different areas such as fair recruitment procedures, properly resourced programmes, policies and procedures, induction and support. The assessment process included group and individual interviews with staff, volunteers and a Trustee.

Over the last year Help and Care volunteers contributed approximately 2,896 hours of their time and helped hundreds of people in Bournemouth, Poole and East Dorset. The volunteers provide a wide variety of support including; dealing with correspondence, writing letters, accompanying people to health and social care appointments, shopping (short term)and preparing for a planned hospital admission and discharge.

Paul Hickman, Chair of Trustees at Help and Care said: “I am delighted that Help and Care has successfully achieved the Investing in Volunteers award for a second time.”

He added; “I would like to thank all of our volunteers for their support and commitment. Their work provides comfort and help to hundreds of people.”
