How we can help

The Community Works team are available to assist older people in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, with a wide range of support .

Here is a list of the types of task they will undertake together with the necessary covering charges.

Driver Escorts

(Essential appointments)

If you are frail or disabled, our Driver Escorts can collect and accompany you to essential appointments and return you safely home. (Medical type appointments where support needed.) 45p per mile plus any other expenses
Driver /Activity Companions Collect and accompany you to appointments / social clubs / theatre trips and return you safely home. 45p per mile and any other expenses
Shopping Companions Either collect and accompany you on shopping trips or do the shopping on your behalf. They can also collect prescriptions and get keys cut. 45p per mile and any other expenses

Visit you at home and help you sort out paperwork such as correspondence, form-filling, writing letters, finance and bills, junk mail etc 

 

Visit you at home for a chat or to share a hobby or pastime

Visit you at home and help you organise small garden projects such as setting up a herb garden or bird table Any mileage or other expenses

Visit you at home and help you with odd jobs such as decluttering, taking (small) unwanted items to charity shops, packing for hospital admission, moving (small) items of furniture and basic computer tuition. Any mileage or other expenses

If the help that you need is not mentioned above, please feel free to call us to see whether we can assist. Please note that we are not able to help with any personal care (such as washing and dressing), any domestic help (such as cleaning and washing) or any medical care.

Please Note:

Tasks can only be carried out during normal office hours. (9am-5pm Mon-Thurs 10am-4.30pm Fri)

All the above tasks are available on an occasional or regular basis as required.

A home assessment visit by Help & Care staff may be required before any visits can be arranged.

All Help & Care volunteers are trained and police-checked.

The length of time for each session can be flexible, according to the type of help required.
