Help and Care are delighted to announce that we have teamed up with FirstStop to provide a Housing Options Service in Dorset.

FirstStop is a national service that aims to provide face-to-face information, advice, practical support and advocacy services to older people with a housing related need.   Help and Care are providing this service locally in Bournemouth, Poole, Purbeck, East Dorset and Christchurch.

Our local caseworker can offer:

  • Advice on support available to help people maintain their independence in their own home
  • Adaptations available from local authority and voluntary sector Providers
  • How to deal with repairs
  • Different types of equipment available to buy
  • Help with applying for grants
  • Money and services available if people are struggling financially, those who are FACS eligible and self funders (including benefits checks)
  • Advice on ‘staying put’ or ‘moving on’. Advice on the different housing choices available, in particular, supported housing, sheltered accommodation, care and residential homes and transfers
  • Information on rights and entitlements – the law, standards and how to access entitlements.
  • Out of Borough transfers – advice and information using the FirstStop database
