Ms Evans is in her late 70s and has been caring for her husband for the last three years because he’s living with dementia.
When she heard about our service Early Help | POPP at her local GP Practice, she decided to give us a call to find out more about unpaid carers’ entitlements and benefits.
Adrian, Early Help | POPP Wayfinder, visited Ms and Mr Evans at home and provided information on how to claim on the basis of severe mental impairment. He also checked if the couple were entitled to other benefits and discovered that they should receive more from their state pension, so he helped them claiming for that as well.
Thanks to our Wayfiner’s visit, Mr and Ms Evans’ economic situation has drastically changed. Now, they both receive a week pension credit, as they both applied for the Attendance allowance. What’s more, although they applied in December, the allowance was backdated to July, which resulted in a lump payment of £2400!! The couple has also been awarded Council Tax Support, which has taken down their council tax payment by half.
Ms Evans said:
We’re forever grateful to Adrian. He only visited us a couple of times, but his help will change our lives.
