Frank's story - Helping Corfe Mullen to become a dementia-friendly community

Frank is one of the Champions in Corfe Mullen. Frank visited St Nicholas Church, where the Vicar and a congregation member had raised concerns regarding the lack of support for people with memory loss.

People in the congregation who were dealing with memory loss didn’t feel supported, neither their families nor carers. As a result of this conversation, Frank investigated more about the problem, liaising with other groups, local businesses and people in Corfe Mullen, linking to and learning from similar organisations and forming a Steering Group to take forward ideas.

From the work of the Steering Group an application was successfully made to the POPP Dementia Innovation Fund for the seed funding of the Corfe Mullen Memory Loss Hub. This is a monthly drop-in for people with memory loss (diagnosed or undiagnosed) and carers to serve Corfe Mullen and surrounding areas. It also disseminates information about memory loss, training/awareness opportunities and all local support services; working to help Corfe Mullen be a dementia-friendly community as well as signposting all local services and groups offering support. In addition, there is a strong cohort of volunteers who support these meetings.
