  • What’s your name, and how long have you been volunteering with Help & Care?
My name is Sarah Jackson. I’ve been with Help & Care since December 2023.
  • Why did you decide to start volunteering?
I wanted to become a trustee for a charity that shared my values, particularly in the health and social care sector, to be able to use my knowledge and skills to give back. I always teach my kids to wake up every day and put the best of yourself into the world, whatever that may be, and I felt that volunteering for an organisation like Help & Care would help me fulfil that.
  • What does a typical day look like when you volunteer?
As a trustee, a typical day volunteering for me is taking part in board meetings, reviewing papers and policies and discussing the strategic direction for Help & Care.
  • What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
I love being able to support the organisation with my own knowledge but also to learn about all the fantastic things others do to help the community.
  • What’s a proud or favourite memory from your time with Help & Care?
I am super proud to have run the London Marathon for Help & Care this year and raised £1900 for Roots.
  • How would your team describe you in one word?
I’d like to think they’d describe me as determined!
  • How do you like to spend your time outside of volunteering?
Outside of volunteering, I have a full-time job in private healthcare, I run a restaurant with my partner, and I have 2 children, so I am kept very busy!
I love to run as well; it really helps my mental and physical wellbeing.
  • Why would you encourage someone else to volunteer with Help & Care?
Help & Care is a fantastic organisation – a real pioneer for health and social care. I think anyone involved in the organisation is taken aback by the deep-rooted values, ethics and commitment to helping the community. I would encourage anyone to volunteer with Help & Care, as it really is so rewarding.
