- What’s your name and where are you from?
My name’s James, and I’m from Southampton. - What motivated you to run the London Marathon for Help & Care’s Root Service?
I’ve always wanted to take part in the London Marathon. That drive started early — my mum and auntie ran it when I was young, and I still remember the huge crowds and the sea of bottles lining the streets (luckily, bins are provided now!). When my wife mentioned that spaces were available, I jumped at the chance. From what she’s told me about the work Help & Care does, I knew it was a charity worth supporting. - What was the best part of your marathon experience?
The finish line! Haha. But honestly, it was the journey — building up the mileage, pushing further, and hitting new milestones along the way. - What was the most challenging part of the journey, and how did you get through it?
Finding the time for the long runs. It takes a toll, not just on you but on your family too — plans shift, and others pick up the slack at home. Getting through it meant being consistent and remembering why I started. - How did it feel to complete the marathon knowing your efforts will support Help & Care UK’s Roots Service?
It felt great — not just for achieving a personal goal but for knowing that my effort will go toward helping others through the work Help & Care does. - What would you say to someone thinking about running for Help & Care next year?
Absolutely go for it! It’s a fantastic charity, and the team really goes above and beyond to support the runners. It makes a huge difference knowing there’s a whole group of people on the same journey as you. - If you could say something to the people your fundraising will help, what would it be?
I’d say I’m sorry I couldn’t raise more — I know how much this support means. But I hope what I’ve done helps even in a small way. You deserve every bit of it.
