Our HR team visits Bournemouth University.

We’re thrilled to share that Joanna Wharton, our Head of Human Resources (HR), and Justyna Kubczak, our HR Manager, were invited to Bournemouth University Business School to deliver a guest lecture to final-year Business Management students.

Their engaging session offered an in-depth look into the day-to-day functions of HR, from its challenges and rewarding impact to the strategic role HR plays within our organisation. This is part of an initiative aimed at broadening students’ understanding of career paths beyond their immediate fields of study.

During their session, Joanna and Justyna shared personal insights from their journeys into HR, illustrating how the field contributes to fostering supportive work environments, nurturing talent, and driving organisational success through strategic leadership.

They provided valuable insights into the unique challenges and fulfilling nature of working in HR within the social care sector, emphasising how the focus on people’s well-being aligns seamlessly with our broader organisational objectives. Through the sharing of personal anecdotes and practical advice, they aimed to demystify HR and inspire students to consider the human impact of their future workplaces.

Here’s what Joanna Wharton, Head of HR at Help & Care, has to say: The enthusiasm and curiosity in the room were truly inspiring. The students asked thought-provoking questions and demonstrated a genuine passion for the subject, which made for an engaging and dynamic discussion. It’s always a pleasure to see such a promising group of future professionals eager to make an impact.

A big thank you to Bournemouth University for the invitation and to the students for making it such an enjoyable experience.

We hope you found value in the session and feel even more motivated to pursue your goals in HR. Wishing you all the best in your studies and future careers.

This event forms part of our ongoing collaboration with Bournemouth University, reflecting our commitment to supporting education and fostering meaningful local connections. We take pride in contributing to the professional growth of students by offering unique opportunities to learn that extend beyond the traditional classroom. Sharing our knowledge allows us to inspire the next generation and help them appreciate the broader impact of diverse career choices.

It’s inspiring to see our team members go beyond their everyday roles to share knowledge and motivate others. Joanna and Justyna’s session serves as a reminder of the significant role HR plays in shaping the future of workplaces. This collaboration reinforces our commitment to fostering local connections, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it creates.

About Help & Care

At Help & Care, we promote dignity and independence for people and communities across South-Central England from our base in Dorset, empowering people and communities to live the lives they choose.

Our values guide all the work we do: Personal, Collaborative, Innovative and Social Justice. For nearly 40 years, we have met the needs in society, and much of our work provides support to people living with a long-term health condition, carers, and those who are isolated or housebound.

We understand that every individual has different needs, so we work closely with people to understand what really matters for them and to help them lead independent and fulfilling lives for as long as possible.

We are key players in the health and social care sector, working with partners across the voluntary sector and wider industries to create services that support the needs of people in our area.
