My Health My Way is running another one of their popular free courses to support people in Bournemouth and Poole who have long-term health conditions and/or their carers.
Commissioned by Dorset CCG and delivered by local charity Help & Care, My Health My Way offers self-management support for individuals aged over 18 who suffer from a long-term health condition and live in Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole, or are registered in a GP practice within these areas.
The service provides one to one health coaching sessions, either face to face in local GP surgeries or community venues or over the phone. With up to six sessions of 45 mins, the focus is on listening to the person’s story, exploring changes they might want to make or challenges they are facing and supporting them with problem solving and goal setting to move forwards.
Since 2014, My Health My Way has been running courses, facilitated by experienced coaches in community group settings. The course has various workshops that cover topics such as working with healthcare professionals, managing anxiety and relaxation, asking for help, connecting to support, communicating our needs and feeling and understanding self-management.
The course also offers a good opportunity for attendees to meet other people with similar experiences. People who have been on these courses often comment how helpful it is to realise they are not alone, to share ideas and feel supported to try new techniques to feel more confident.
One of the last year’s attendees said:
“I plucked up the courage to go and it’s probably the best thing I’ve done. It’s nice to know you’re not alone and to share ideas with the group.”
Given its popularity, My Health My Way is running another course in spring 2018. This year’s course will take place on 24th April, 1st May, 8th May and 15th May 2018, from 2pm to 4pm (including a break with refreshments) at Kinson Community Hub.
Naomi Unwin, Service Manager of My Health My Way & Advocacy Services said:
“It is always a pleasure to see how the individuals on the course bond and support each other to grow in confidence. People get so much from being able to share not only their experiences but also their learning to help others. In their feedback on the courses, people talk about the skills and ideas they've picked up and how it has really helped them grow in confidence."
We are now open to referrals and we encourage anyone meeting the eligibility criteria to get in touch via phone or email to apply for a place. We also accept referrals from clinical and non-clinical staff working in health, social care or voluntary sector.
Anyone interested in the course, or on one to one support, please call 0303 303 0153 or email email@example.com.
