What is your role at Help & Care?
It’s been quite an evolving journey as I was one of the early in post appointments when everyone was still trying to work out exactly what a Social Prescriber could become.
I love the fact Help & Care have nurtured and owned the role in Dorset by using their own guiding principles of person focused practice.
What does your typical day look like? Is there an element of your work that you enjoy the most?
A mixture of phone and face-to-face sessions.
Connecting people to the most suitable information, support services and community assets they need to help them build resilience and overcome their immediate challenges.
Beginning the journey and seeing how what we do affects real change in client’s lives.
Building, nurturing and discovering new community assets for the ongoing benefit of our clients. This naturally leads to many of the people running these incredible community assets beginning to talk to, and work with each other too, which can be more beneficial for all in the longer term.
How do Social Prescribers support people to live the lives they choose?
What we do gives people a voice.
We build trust by following through with actions or just taking the first step alongside a client, if necessary. Sometimes just being honest about the reality is enough to build this trust. Once you gain a client’s trust you can help build resilience and help them to live the life they choose.
