What does your typical day look like?

My typical day as Head of HR starts with a clear plan of tasks, meetings, and priorities. But, the nature of the role means that unexpected situations regularly arise and need immediate attention. As a result, much of my day is spent responding to situations as they develop.

I engage with colleagues across the organisation, hold regular meetings with the HR team and managers, and provide one-to-one support where needed. My inbox and MS Teams are consistently active, which reflects the reality of being a Head of HR—balancing strategic planning with a hands-on approach to supporting colleagues, navigating complex people matters, and helping to shape a positive and inclusive workplace.

There really isn’t such a thing as a typical day in HR.

Is there an element of your work that you enjoy the most?

Being in a position where I can support, guide, and empower colleagues across the organisation.

I’m passionate about making a positive impact on people’s working lives – whether that’s resolving challenges, supporting their development, or simply being a listening ear. It’s incredibly rewarding to be someone others feel they can rely on.

How does your work help us support people to “live the lives they choose”?

Working behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly for our frontline teams. By managing the ‘behind the scenes’ detail and taking care of the smaller, but essential, elements, we enable our frontline staff to focus on delivering high-quality support to the community.
