Whilst people with memory concerns and their families wait for the assessment process to complete, our team has been reaching out proactively to offer wellbeing conversations and introduce the range of support available through Help & Care. These calls aim to make sure no one feels alone while they wait – and to connect carers and family members with the right help early on.

The impact has been clear. A high number of carers have been identified and supported through these calls, many accessing our wellbeing coaching and carer support services. This early intervention helps prevent carer burnout and encourages people to look after their own wellbeing alongside caring for someone with memory concerns.

Becky Hacking at Help & Care, said:
“We know how worrying this process and potential diagnosis can be for people and their families. These conversations are about reaching people early, listening to their experiences, and making sure both the person and their support network feel connected to the right support. It’s about keeping wellbeing at the centre of care, right from the start.”

The proactive contact and follow-up support highlight our shared commitment to person-centered, preventative care across Dorset – ensuring that everyone, whether waiting for a diagnosis or supporting a loved one, has someone to turn to.
