DLA changing to PIP for claimants aged 16 to 64
DLA – changing to PIP for claimants aged 16 to 64
DLA is gradually being replaced by PIP for people aged 16 to 64 with a long term health condition or disability. PIP helps with some of the extra costs incurred by long-term ill health or disability and is based on how your condition affects you, not on the condition itself. All new claimants for DLA within Great Britain will be treated as claims for PIP.
If you are already receiving DLA on a fixed term basis you will be advised how to apply to be assessed for PIP when your award comes up for renewal, or when you report a change in your condition. Most people claiming DLA will not be affected by PIP until October 2015 when the DWP will begin selecting all DLA claimants to inform them of what they need to do to claim PIP.
You will need an assessment to work out the level of help you get. Your award will be regularly reassessed to ensure you are receiving the right level of support.
