Befriending support is offered to those registered with a local GP practice.  A referral is required from the GP or other health or social care professional or agency.


WRVS Befriending Scheme – Blandford

Volunteers offer home visiting to provide company, accompanied walks and trips out, accompanied participation in social activities and groups. Developed by WRVS, NHS Dorset, Dorset POPP and Volunteer Centre Dorset to provide low level support to people at home, helping them to remain independent, engage with their local community preventing social isolation. Communicare – Swanage and District

Communicare is organised by the Christian churches in Swanage. Volunteers offer help to anyone who is in need of neighbourly kindness.  Services include:

• Visiting the lonely and bereaved

• Sitting in to relieve the carer, reading to the housebound

• Form filling or writing letters

• Helping with practical tasks like shopping, collecting prescriptions

• Accompanying the frail either walking or in a wheelchair

• Car transport for hospital visits or for compassionate reasons
