Community Credit Unions
First Dorset Credit Union
The aim of credit unions is to encourage members to make regular savings, and to make safe affordable loans to members. Credit Unions can be especially useful to people for whom the more expensive facilities on the High Street may be beyond their reach.
The First Dorset Credit Union Ltd is a local community support project run by a board of volunteer directors elected from among its membership, and is supported by local councils, Housing Associations, and Citizens Advice Bureaux. The credit union is for all
people who live or work within the Common Bond area which covers the whole of rural
Dorset from Lyme Regis and the Blackmore Vale in the south to southwest Wiltshire in the north. The main office is in Dorchester. First Dorset Credit Union Ltd is owned and controlled by the members, whose elected representatives run it for the benefit of all is a member of the Association of British Credit Unions Ltd and is regulated by the Financial Services Authority. These legal requirements are as strict as they are for any High Street
bank. There are now eight service points spread throughout the common bond area, drop in and see us at your local service point or contact our administrative office for an appointment on 01305 268444.
