Caring for a loved one or relative can be hard work, so Help and Care are here to support carers in as many ways as we can be it giving information and advice, a short break service, advocacy and support, or practical help with home repairs or adaptations.
As a carer you have a right to ask for an assessment of your needs. It is important that your health and well being is maintained and that you are supported in your caring role.
Each local authority has a Carers Co-ordinator or Case Worker who is able to offer help, information and support. For further details contact your local Social Services office for further information about caring, details of training courses, support groups and carers social events:

St Saviour’s Church
A warm and friendly group for anyone caring for someone who has an illness, is coping with the effects of old age, has a disability or a mental health challenge. Relax and chat with others who understand, swap tips on caring, contact Support Workers or be signposted to services, refreshments available. Meets every third Friday of the month 10am – 12pm. FOCUS (friends offering carers understanding support)
FOCUS works in partnership with Bournemouth Borough Council and Borough of Poole for local carers who feel lonely or isolated. Volunteers are recruited, trained and matched to carers, offering befriending support in the form of a phone call, visit, outing or some form of regular contact. For further details contact:

Home from Home provides reliable day respite for carers of older people (aged 55+) in Bournemouth and Poole.
Each person is matched to a “Host” who is fully trained, insured, CRB police checked and whose home has been safety assessed, thereby allowing the carer some time to themselves with the peace of mind their friend or relative is in a safe environment enjoying a range of different social activities and a home cooked meal.
