Age Concern – Christchurch

A minibus with passenger lift is available for older/disabled people only. Available for shopping trips on Thursday and Friday mornings, and to take clients to the Pop-In Centres on Monday to Friday. For further information contact Age Concern Christchurch on 01202 488311.

Burton & Winkton Care Group

Help with transport available to residents of Burton and Winkton 7 days a week, all year round (subject to availability). For information about charges please ring Mrs G Farwell on 01202 484251. Please note that the cars are not wheelchair accessible.

Christchurch Dial-a-bus

Dial-a-bus offers you a specially adapted bus with trained staff to collect you from your front door and take you to Sainsbury’s or Christchurch town centre on Tuesday and Friday if you live in the west of Christchurch, and on Thursday if you live in the East of Christchurch. Dial-a-bus offers various excursions on alternate Wednesdays between the east and west sides of Christchurch (in mid June this changes to a weekly service). Charges are £4 for local trips and vary for excursions. For further information about journeys, charges and how to join the scheme telephone Christchurch Information Centre on 01202 471780.

Christchurch Neighbourcar – part of the Christchurch Partnership

Door to door transport to attend hospital, doctors, dental and chiropody appointments as well as visiting hairdressers, church, clubs etc, (but please note they are unable to do shopping trips). The scheme operates Monday – Friday, and drivers are able to wait up to an hour to take clients home. Please ring to book between 9am and 1pm – at least two working days notice is required. The cars are not wheelchair accessible but rollators may be accommodated. The driver will tell you the total mileage and cost of journey at 50p per mile plus any car parking expenses. Christchurch Shopmobility

For people of any age who have mobility problems, whether the result of permanent of temporary disablement, age, accident or illness, who wish to shop or visit the Christchurch area. Clients do not need to be registered disabled.Shopmobility can provide the short term loan of a wheelchair (powered or manual) or a powered scooter. Annual membership fee: £20 plus £1 per trip. Temporary Visitor fee: Wheelchair - £3 and Scooter - £6 plus a £5 refundable deposit.

A telephone service is now available for anyone to find out if there is a community transport scheme in their area. Just call the number and provide your postcode. The operator will tell you if there is a scheme near you and provide you with a contact name and telephone number. Dorset County Council Adult & Community Services in association with Dorset Community Action have produced a booklet listing 40 voluntary car schemes, dial-a-rides and other Community Transport initiatives across Dorset.
