Community Transport – Transporting the Community
If you need transport to get to non-emergency medical appointments, visit someone in hospital, attend a social activity or just to visit friends and family then Community Transport may be the answer. A telephone service is now available for anyone to find out if there is a community transport scheme in their area. Just call the number and provide your postcode. The operator will tell you if there is a scheme near you and provide you with a contact name and telephone number. For further details contact:

Dorset Community Transport Directory
Dorset County Council Adult & Community Services in association with Dorset Community Action have produced a booklet listing 40 voluntary car schemes, dial-a-rides and other Community Transport initiatives across Dorset. Dorset Country Cars
This covers a number of schemes in rural areas of Dorset. The scheme is for people who are not able to use or access public transport. Contributions are between 25p and 35p per mile (this varies from scheme to scheme) for journeys up to 50 miles round trip. Bookings should be made at least 24 hours in advance.
Dorset County Cars can be used to visit your doctor, clinic, chiropodist, friends or relatives in hospital, collect prescriptions and connect with a bus, train or coach. The scheme cannot be used for hospital appointments.Bookings should be with your local organiser listed below, who will then check that the journey is eligible and arrange for a driver.

Ferndown Neighbourcar Scheme
Ferndown Neighbourcar Scheme are a group of local residents who have come together to offer help to people in our community who would appreciate a little assistance with transport when attending doctor’s, dentist’s or hospital appointments, essential shopping trips or occasional visits to friends etc. For further information about booking and charges contact Joyce Little on 01202 980839.
Holt Neighbour Cars are an independent group of local residents who have come together to offer help to people in our community who would appreciate a little assistance with transport when:
• Attending doctor’s appointments
• Attending hospital appointments
• Going to Church
• Going shopping
• Visiting friends

Verwood Good Neighbours

The Good Neighbours Scheme in Verwood has volunteers who are able to assist with safe transport for older people in the Verwood area. Operating within a 5 mile radius of Verwood town centre the volunteers are able to take people to GP surgeries, social activities, essential shopping trips, hospital appointments etc. Drivers are not able to accept money for the journey, but clients are asked to contribute a minimum of £4 towards the running costs of the scheme by placing this money (plus any extra donation) into a sealed envelope addressed to ‘The Treasurer’, contact office for further details about this. All drivers are CRB checked and the scheme is organised in conjunction with Neighbourhood Watch and Dorset POPPs. Please phone in advance to arrange journeys as availability may vary.
Vision Wimborne Dial-a–Ride
Door-to-door transport for people living in East Dorset and within a 5-mile radius of Wimborne, with mobility problems. The service also includes Merley residents and people living in Broadstone if they need to come to Wimborne. Clients can be picked up from as far as St Leonard’s and St Ives. The cars are specially converted to take a wheelchair and each has a swivel seat in the front. All drivers are volunteers. Donations will be requested based on the mileage and will be agreed on booking. Telephone: 01202 880699
