Axe Valley & West Dorset Ring and Ride

This service covers Axminster, Seaton, Lyme Regis, Bridport, Thorncombe, Beaminster and villages in these areas. The minibus is wheelchair accessible and is available for the elderly, disabled or rurally/socially disadvantaged people. The driver picks up each passenger from their home and takes them into town to do shopping or use local services. A different area is cover each day and seats need to be booked in advance. Community Transport – transporting the community

If you need transport to get to non-emergency medical appointments, visit someone in hospital, attend a social activity or just to visit friends and family then Community Transport may be the answer. A telephone service is now available for anyone to find out if there is a community transport scheme in their area. Just call the number and provide your postcode. Dorchester Central Neighbourcar

A community neighbourcar scheme run by volunteers offering transport to health related appointments and support groups to people who are unable to use or have no access to public transport. Clients must live within a 5 mile radius of Dorchester and registered with a Dorchester General Practitioner. There is a £5 annual registration fee and journeys are charged at 60p per mile with a minimum charge of £2.50. Dorset Country Cars

This covers a number of schemes in rural areas of Dorset. The scheme is for people who are not able to use other means of transport.

Contributions are between 25p and 35p per mile (this varies from scheme to scheme) for journeys up to 50 miles round trip. Bookings should be made at least 24 hours in advance.Can be used to visit your doctor, clinic, chiropodist, friends or relatives in hospital, collect prescriptions and connect with a bus, train or coach. The scheme cannot be used for hospital appointments.

Puddletown Neighbourcar

Neighbourcar scheme available to older people and those with mobility needs within a 5 mile radius of Puddletown Surgery (not Dorchester area). Customers will be asked to register with the scheme for £5. Journeys will then be charged at 45p per mile with a minimum charge of £1.50.

Sherborne Good Neighbours

A voluntary organisation supported by Sherborne Churches, Social Services, and Sherborne Town Council. Volunteers help with shopping, writing letters and form filling, reading to the older or housebound people, visiting those who would welcome some company. Volunteers also help with essential transport (40p per mile), practical assistance at home and sitting services to relieve carer. The Sherborne Voluntary Ambulance serves the Sherborne and surrounding area and is free of charge. Available to the elderly and disabled only, there are 8-10 volunteer drivers. The service is not for individual use; the Voluntary Ambulance would arrange trips out to social events etc, and people are expected to phone up and add their name to the list. If a large enough group of people wish to go to, for example, the local shopping centre,

Weymouth Community Transport

Weymouth Community volunteers run Weymouth Community Transport and have volunteer drivers able to take people to medical appointments such as hospital, doctors, dentist, chiropodist, and opticians if you meet the criteria, minimum donation of 50p per mile. There is a £5 annual registration fee. 2hrs waiting time is allowed for hospital appointments and 1hr waiting time for GP, dentists, chiropodist and optician appointments before bringing the client home again. Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester Dial-A-Bus

The Dial-a-bus service has been set up to provide wheelchair accessible transport for elderly and disabled people who find it difficult to use existing transport services. There are two schemes available which serve Dorchester, and Weymouth and Portland. Dial-a-bus offers you a specially adapted bus with trained staff to collect you from your home and take you either to Weymouth town centre, Dorchester town centre or Dorchester Tesco. You can use Dial-a-bus for any journey except hospital appointments. To join the scheme you need to contact the booking office on 01305 221059 and give details of your needs.

The co-ordinator will then send you an application form which must be signed by your GP or other professional carer. Once your form has been returned to the booking office you will be able to use the service. The service is available to residents of Weymouth and Portland on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and Dorchester on Wednesdays.

One-off membership joining fee required and fares vary according to pick up area and destinations. Bookings are made on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, and should be made at least one day before you need to travel.

A community neighbourcar scheme for people who live within the immediate area of Weymouth and Portland who have no access to or are unable to use public transport. Weymouth Shopmobility – Wheels for Freedom

For people of any age who have mobility problems, whether the result of permanent of temporary disablement, age, accident or illness. Clients do not need to be registered disabled.Shopmobility can provide the short term loan of a wheelchair (powered or manual) or a powered scooter. Available in Weymouth on Tuesdays from 9.45am- 3.45pm (and Fridays excluding Bank Holidays from April to September), and Dorchester on Wednesdays. Optional Annual membership fee: £20, able to access a vehicle for £1 each time. Temporary membership for 3 months also available for £10. Day/Visitor membership, £3 per day for a wheelchair, £6 per day for a powered scooter, plus £5 refundable deposit. Long term loans of wheelchairs and scooters also available.
