Using your Blue Badge

You can use your Blue Badge when travelling in a vehicle as a passenger or driver.  No family member, friend, carer, or neighbour can use your badge unless you are travelling in the vehicle with them at the time.  Your Blue Badge is valid anywhere in the European Union but usage varies from country to country so check details before you travel.

Your Blue Badge must be clearly displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle.  You should display the side with the wheelchair symbol and the expiry date.

Free parking is not automatic for Blue Badge holders in “Pay and Display” car parks, check the details on the signs in each car park.

Dealing with problems using your Blue Badge

Lost or stolen Blue Badges or clocks: - report a lost or stolen Blue Badge and/or clock to the police.  They will issue you with a lost property or crime number.  Then write to your local authority to let them know:

• Your full name

• Why you need a replacement

• The lost property or crime number

• Include a passport-size photograph with your name written on the back

• Your signature

There will be a £10 charge for a replacement Blue Badge.  There is no charge if you just need a replacement clock, just contact your local authority and request one.

Parking tickets issued while using your Blue Badge: - to appeal against any parking tickets issued to you contact the parking services section that issued the ticket.  Their details will be printed on the Penalty Charge Notice.
